Long Days Journey Into Night

The business trip started today. My first flight is delayed...this can't be good! In fact I have to completely reschedule my flights and go to Long Beach via Salt Lake City instead of Phoenix. That would be the scenic route. So, after twelve hours in airports and on planes, and an airport hot dog for lunch, I finally arrived at my destination. Fortunately the hotel is only a couple of miles from the airport. After unpacking, I go to the front desk and ask for directions to the nearest restaurants, since I am starving at this point. I get my directions and head toward Lakewood Mall. There are several choices here, including a Mimi's. I think I'll try El Torrito's.
Holy Cow, this is good food. The salsa is extremely fresh, although it may have a little more cilantro that some people might like. I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito. When it comes to the table, this thing is the size of a football! I thought I was starving, but I only managed to get through half of this thing. I put the rest of it in a go box and I'll heat it up for lunch tomorrow.
I'm staying in a suite hotel, so I have a kitchen at my disposal.
I'm going to be here three days, so I have some evenings to find ways to entertain myself. During the spring and summer, I typically try to find a major or minor league baseball game to attend. Right now, we're truly in between seasons so there isn't much to do during the evenings.
I do have an idea though. If you watch the food network, one of your favorite shows is probably 3D (Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives). Well, there are a couple of the restaurants featured on this show in the Long Beach area. Guess where I'm eating tomorrow. There is Baby Blues BBQ in Venice, Jay Bee's Bar-B-Que in Gardena, or there is Schooner or Later, right here in Long Beach. Decisions, decisions. I will post photos, so stay tuned. I'm going to bed now. Y'all visit among yourselves.

I hate business trips... and I'm kinda glad that the new job doesn't include them... yet... touch wood.

Anyplace with the word/words/letters BBQ, Bar-B-Que, or the like is rarely a bad thing...

Sounds like you're making the best of it which is always a good thing!

Just remember - Gardena may not be the best place to go after dark...
You may want to check with a local first.
I grew up in Anaheim and always loved Long Beach. It's got a lot of charm.
Enjoy yourself!

Sounds like the rough travel day was at the beginning of your trip. Let's hope that means you'll have smooth sailing on the return home.

Long Beach is a pretty interesting place, and you can get to other interesting places from there. Good luck on your evening search for something to do!
