Veteran's Day

Valiant men and women have served this country ever since we became a nation. Some have paid the ultimate price so that the rest of the nation might enjoy the privilege of the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. Today is Veteran's Day. If you know a veteran, I would encourage to make a phone call and thank them for their service. We are quickly losing "The Greatest Generation", those who survived the depression, fought World War II, and led this nation into the space age. Many of them are now in their 80's. We owe them much.
There are those who served in Korea, and Viet Nam. Now there are those who have served in the Mid-East. Remember, a soldier does not choose his adversary, nor does he select the conflict, he merely serves where he is told that there is a need and that freedom is at risk. If you see a service man or woman in uniform, stop and thank them for their service. They are doing a job that few people want to do and even fewer understand.

A wonderful post. I will go to a loal program tomorrow. My wife as a reporter/writer has written lots on the local WWII vets, and they are a great bunch. Sadly, the WWII vets are dwindling in numbers. We will go to a local memorium on a small town green, with music, the Boy Scouts in attendance and speakers from that day. I remember my parents were visiting in Europe how they went to many of the US WWII cemeteries. As did many of their contemporaries when they visited in th 1980s. The war affected everyone back then, and they didn't forget.

You look great in uniform, BTW!

Very well done. Hubby served during the Viet Nam conflict but never went to Viet Nam. He did is hitch in Germany. Well, I guess speaking German helped him a bit.

Thank you my dear blogging buddy for your service. Have a great day. Big hug. :)

A wonderful sentiment... my Remembrance Day post will be up at midnight... I cheated a touch because I really can't top the "first one" I did...

Thanks for this post... Lest we forget.

Well said, and thank you.

Quite a dashing young feller, weren't you? Was this taken before or after you met your wife?

Poignant reminder! Looking at your photo reminds me of my ‘ex’ who served in Ben Hoa, Vietnam for 13 months in 1967-68. Maybe I’ll give him a call later … just because.
Hugs and blessings,

Ralph: Thank you for the kind words.

Sandee: In my mind, if you've been in the military, you're a veteran and deserve all of the benefits afforded them.

Matthew: If you had a good post, I am sure it is worth repeating.

Travis: Thank you sir.

Amy: I was 21 when this photo was taken. I met my wife five years later and we were married a year after we met.

Storyteller: It's a small world after all. This pic is taken at the Ben Hoa Army compound. I served most of my tour there.

Thank you for your service Sir.

It is a day I honor with respect and pride.

I might not always agree with our governments decisions but I will always respect the men and women who put their lives on the line for all of us.

Lovely tribute to those that came before you, to your comrades in arms and to those who have continued the legacy and carried the flame of service with pride and dignity.

Lest we forget.

Thank you for your service.

God Bless

Hmmm ... I suppose there were LOTS of servicemen stationed there, but wouldn't it be strange if the two of you knew one another. He arrived just before the TET offensive in 1967 ... returned home on Christmas Day in 1968 after serving in country for 13 months.
Hugs and blessings,

Happy Veteran's day! I can't imagine the dedication and honor that our vets have for our country.

Vince: Every conflict has had it's protesters, but it should never diminish the respect for those who serve their country.

Anndi: Thank you.

Diane: I am glad that you enjoyed it.

Storyteller: Yes Ben Hoa was one of the largest bases. I was in the field during TET. I came home in May of '68.

Mary: We were all better looking at 21. We also thought we were ten feet tall a bulletproof.

Marlou; Thank you.

Norm: I'm glad you found it interesting and happy Remembrance day do you as well.

Katy: Dedication and honor are things that you give much thought to at the time. Survival is foremost in your mind.

This is a nice tribute, and thank you as well for your service.
I'm the wife that Ralph mentioned above.
I attended two very different Veterans Day programs and they were both moving in their own ways.
