Last Sunday afternoon my bride and I decided to take a drive through the Ozark National forest to see the fall foliage. We have had a lot of rain this year and the weather has been perfect for the leaves to change into the most brilliant colors. We headed out of Fayetteville, Arkansas on Highway 16 East. After about 20 miles it intersects with Highway 23 South and enters the forest. Here are some of the sights.
No, I don't ride bikes. I'm too old for that. However, we did talk about how much fun this would have been in a convertible.
Highway 23 intersects with I40 between Russleville and Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Before you get to Ft. Smith, you take the exit onto scenic highway 71 North back to Fayetteville. Here are a few photos along that route.
Lookout point in the Boston Mountains is about the half way point on the return trip. The view is spectacular.
All in all, the trip lasted about four and a half hours. It was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Oh yeah, gas is now $1.91 per gallon here, so it wasn't that painful on the pocketbook either. As always, you can click on any photo to fill your screen with color.

Awesome. I see the last photograph made your new header. Very well done. We just don't get those kind of colors here. We just don't. Have a great day. Big hug. :)
Beautiful shots. Much prettier than that game Saturday.
I don't recall if I told you that the photograph on your blog header is stunning!
What beautiful photos! Isn't God good!!!
~~~Blessings~~~
Love the pics. I know Fall makes alot of people depressed, but it is one of my favorite seasons just because of all the glorious color!
Fantastic pictures. I really need to get back to Arkansas and take some pictures. I miss living there. :(
STUNNING! What amazing shots! We were kinda short-changed in Toronto as we had Fall -> Winter (complete with ice and snow) -> Fall again -> Late Summer (it's over 70 outside today!) all since late-September... which knocked MOST of the leaves from the trees early.
What a glorious Sunday it was for you... and many, Many thanks for sharing it!
Sigh. I wish I could have done that last weekend. When you left a comment last week about planning a trip to Branson my heartstrings were pulling me there. The colors here are finally peaking, and it has truly been a beautiful fall. Thanks for the pictures since I didn't get to go see it myself.
