Thirteen of My Favorite Comedians

1. The Honeymooners. This entire cast is classic comedy
2. Red Skelton. An early Television comedian that was among the very best.
3. Jonathan Winters. The predecessor to Robin Williams. Winters was one of the funniest and most original comedians of his day.
4. Carol Burnett. A female comedian that hosted her own show in the 60's. I liked her better than Lucille Ball. Carol had a great supporting cast that included Harvey Korman and Tim Conway.
5. Bill Cosby. Cosby brought new dimension to family comedy on TV. The parents could be right and in charge of the family and still be funny. His stand-up routines are classic.
6. Robin Williams. His ability to improvise comedy is unmatched today. From Mork & Mindy to "Good Morning Viet Nam", to "Mrs. Doubtfire", he is one of the most versatile comedians working today.
7. Jack Lemmon. From "Some Like it Hot" and "Mr. Roberts" to "Grumpy Old Men" Jack Lemmon was one of the best comedy actors of all time.
8. Johnny Carson. While not the pioneer of late night TV. Johnny brought it to new heights. He was a master of stand-up comedy.
9. David Letterman. Letterman is far and away the best working today. He was actually Carson's pick to take over the Tonight Show.
10. Saturday Night Live...The early years. Again the cast that included Bill Murray, Dan Aykroid, John Belushi, Jane Curtain and the gang were funny nearly every week.
11. Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. This is the predecessor to Saturday night live. It launched the career of Goldie Hawn.
12. George Carlin. George may have the most unique outlook on life of anyone I know. He seems to have grown a little senile in recent years, but he is very funny.
13. Larry the Cable Guy. Ya gotta like Redneck humor to appreciate Larry, but he is one of the funniest guys working today.

I Love This Stuff!!!

I am an architect by profession.
The firm that I work for is currently building a new structure to house all 250 of our staff. As the Director of Architecture, I have been involved in the design and construction of this new facility. Everytime I visit the jobsite to see the progress of the construction, I am reminded why I love this stuff.
I enjoy the whole creative process. From the time the building is just a dream in the minds of a few of the management team, until it gets formalized on the computer screens and on paper, through construction, and right up until the day that we move in...I love this stuff. By the way, move in will happen in April '08.
Three years ago my wife and I built our home. Again, I love this stuff. The plan works very well for us. We picked out the brick, the interior and exterior colors, the door and cabinet hardware, the cabinets, the trim, the wood floors, tile, carpet, and my wife added some much needed furniture. It was a wonderful experience. While it is a very traditional exterior, the interior is an open plan and suits our lifestyle. I would have a very hard time giving this place up. I love the site, I love the house, I love this stuff.

Bambi

The weather is starting to cool down here in the Ozarks and that means one thing... the deer are moving. Bow season for deer started two weeks ago. This week was muzzle loading season, and next week starts modern gun season. I'm not a hunter so none of this makes any difference to me. However, all of this pressure makes the deer nervous and they start moving, often into oncoming traffic.
Since I live adjacent to the woods and on a county road, I have to be very careful driving to and from work each day. I've already seen two deer that have been hit by cars and I've witnessed one car avoid being hit by a deer. I've seen three deer in the ravine behind our house and a dozen or more on my way to work. I need to get the camera out and take advantage of the photo opportunity. Bambi is alive and well here in the Ozarks.

Thursday Thirteen No. 2

Thirteen Things about God and TV

Recently a 5th grade teacher in a Christian school asked her class to look at TV commercials and see if they could use them in some way to communicate ideas about God. Here are 13 of the results.
1…. God is like Hallmark Cards, He cares enough to send His very best.
2. God is like a Ford, He has a better idea.
3. God is like Coca Cola, He is the Real Thing.
4. God is like General Electric, He brings good things to life.
5. God is like Sears, He has everything.
6. God is like Tide, He gets the stains out that others leave behind.
7. God is like Scotch Tape, you can't see Him, but you know He's there.
8. God is like AllState, you're in good hands with Him.
9. God is like Dial Soap, Aren't you glad you have Him?
Don't you wish everybody did?
10. God is like Maxwell House Coffee, good to the last drop.
11. God is like Delta Airlines, He's ready when you are.
12. God is like the U.S. Post office,Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of
night stays Him from His appointed destination.
13. God is like Bounty towels, He's the quicker picker upper, can handle the tough
jobs, and He won't fall apart on you.

There is more truth to these than most of us are willing to admit. Thanks for stopping by and have a great Thursday!

Be True to Your School

I don't know exactly what it is about growing older, but I find myself being more sentimental towards my alma mater than ever before. I don't give to any of the scholarship funds or anything like that. I just buy the team logo stuff. I have a chrome medalion on the back of my truck, a logo license plate on the front of my wife's car, logo luggage tags on my luggage and brief case. We have two of the folding lawn chairs with the logo printed on the back. When we go to our grand daughter's soccer match, there are at least four universities represented on these types of chairs. I actually picked one of the fantasy football leagues I participate in based on the fact that all of the members had to be either OU or Texas fans. I have a logo key fob on my primary key ring and I just ordered aditional ones for my spare keys. Oh yeah, I have a logo garden flag coming. I only did that because the neighor has one and he's from Texas A&M. I even have the school fight song as my primary ring tone on my cell phone. I know I'm too old for this silliness, but I really don't care. It makes life fun and if you can't have a little fun in this life...what's the point?

What school are we talking about...The University of Oklahoma, OU!!!!
BOOMER Sooner....Roll on Crimson and Cream...Roll on!!!

I Took the "Long Road Home"

I went to the store to pick up "Revival" by John Fogerty and there was "The Long Road Home". It is a double disk live album that features alot of old CCR stuff with some new twists in the arrangements. Well, this isn't the first time I've gone on a mission to purchase one item and bought two. The live album is great! But then again, I have a few favorite artists that I think most everything they do is great. John Fogerty and Delbert McClinton fall into that catagory. Like I said, I went to a "Revival" today, but I had to take "The Long Road Home"...and I would gladly take this trip again!!!

Revival

Revival is coming to this house very soon! The other night I was watching Letterman and the musical guest was John Fogerty. He has a new album out titled "Revival". As a young adult, I was a huge Creedence Clearwater Revival fan. I think I have most of Fogerty's albums since Creedence broke up years and years ago. So...sometime today there will be a Revival in the house. Can I get a witness?
