Thursday Thirteen No. 19

My Thirteen Favorite American Idol Contestants

Yes, I like American Idol. I know more about it than my wife. I read five or six blogs dedicated to the show every week. Over the years I have had some favorite contestants. Some of them won it all, some finished second, and a few finished further down the list. So here are my favorite American Idol contestants.

1. Carrie Underwood - No further comment needed, but how about reliving an AI moment.

2. Taylor Hicks - I like his Joe Cocker, John Fogerty, Delbert McClinton style vocals.
3. Katharine McPhee - Big brown eyes and a great adult contemporary voice.
4. Kelly Clarkson - Loved her early on. Not so much now.
5. Chris Daughtry - He brought a new dimension to the show.
6. Clay Aiken - The first really good male vocalist on the show.
7. Jordin Sparks - There is a joy in her youth that radiates from her face.
8. Mandisa - Big voice, gospel singin' diva. I've seen her is concert and she can rock the house.
9. Kellie Pickler - Like her much better now. She has a good time wherever she is and it goes contagious.
10. Jennifer Hudson - Sixth place finisher wins academy award. Not all of the talent finishes at the top of the voting.
11. Bucky Covington - He's gotten much better since the show. This country boy has found a home.
12. Diana DeGarmo - Great voice from a very young singer.
13. Elliot Yamin - Very nice voice, seems like a very nice person.

Well, there you have it. Not terribly original but there is some food for thought. I'm sure I've offended somebody by leaving off their favorite.

You haven't offended me, that's for sure -- I have never seen the show so I don't know one from the other. But I do wish i had had Simon Cowell's inspiration for what is really such a simple idea. I saw a couple of episodes of the original, Pop Idol, in England many years ago, and it has turned into such a huge franchise for him. he must be raking it in!

I liked Katherine McPhee - but you know she was cut from her record label. Interesting how that works, eh?

Happy TT!

Clay Aiken was my favorite. I don't watch television anymore, but I never missed Clay and Ruben Studdard. I thought Clay was much better than Ruben. What a great year that was. Have a wonderful TT. :)

I like most of the same as you. We have eerily similar tastes my friend. LOL!

I would switch Taylor and Carrie, remove Daughtry and Pickler and replace them with Bo Bice and Latoya London, switch Elliot and Clay, remove McPhee and replace her with Melinda Doolittle.

No favorites for me yet this season, although I'm leaning toward David A and David C so far. None of the women have impressed me.

I would put Bo Bice in there instead of Daughtry. His acupello performance on AI4 was one of the best ever. Also Taylor would be #1 for me and move Carrie down a few notches. Personally, I really like Taylors whisky tenor, his blues, and his growling on Georgia and others. But other than his voice, I just think he is the best all around musician they have ever had. He really puts together a good band. Enjoyed your blog, but I just can't seem to get into AI this year.

Never saw the show ever. Just can't get into it. It makes me a bit of an outcast at work the day after since I don't know who they are talking about or what the controversy du jour is.

Thanks for visiting my T13 this week!

I’ve missed most of the early shows, but I’m watching it this year and I like the young kid David (who sang ‘Imagine’ and think he could win).
Hugs and blessings,

Can't comment on your list since I don't watch AI.

I feel VERY left out... I... I...

i don't watch idol...

Still, you'd have to live in a cave to not have heard of Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Clay Aiken, Jordin Sparks, and Kellie Pickler...

...and yet, I still don't turn on my TV to watch it.

You are dead about Mandisa and Jennifer Hudson. I also liked Eliot Yamin. Happy TT.

Carrie's performance of "Alone" is probably my favorite performance ever from the show. She nailed it. I definitely had goosebumps when she sang.

I think my favorite Idol is a new one - Michael Johns. I'm so superficial. :)
