From time to time all of us ponder our own mortality. What happens after we die. I realize that is a morbid thought to many, and a lot of people would rather not be confronted with the issue. We live in a world filled with turmoil, strife, and anger. We live in a world that has little respect for authority and even less for human life. We have a tendency to build monuments to tragic events so that we will not forget. Several years ago a section of a bridge collapsed and 13 people were killed when their cars drove into the river below. There is now a small park and statue to memorialize the event. Nearly a decade ago a college basketball team was killed in a plane crash in the middle of a field. There is a memorial in the middle of nowhere to pay homage to those who were lost. The truth is, for many monuments and memorials, the next generation will have little or no recollection of the reason for the edifice. Life is fleeting. We only have one opportunity to live it correctly and some day we must come face to face with eternity. Personally, I am secure in my faith and I know what lies ahead.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
"...I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." John 10:10
"In My Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am there you may be also." John 14:2-3
"For the Lord Himslef will descend from heaven with a shout and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord." 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
If I should die before the Lord returns, He has prepared a place for me. If I am alive when He returns, I will meet Him in the air. In either case, I will rise. Enjoy.
